Tell Me Mother Mary

So tell me Mother Mary
Who is this fallen angel you hold?
This broken creature
So long from earth and heaven

Bruised and bloodied
Yet she is not your's
No Christ is she
No long forgotten son

Once she was a religious
A long time ago
She prayed to you in fear
But no guidance came

Life had really damned her
Beauty gave way to pain
Friends, lovers abused her
False escapes were her ending

Murderers threw her to you
This long nameless daughter
No one was her saviour
Her last moment's prayer

So tell me Mother Mary
Who killed this precious angel?

---author's note---
i wrote thise some time ago. it's about a local murder. a young woman was killed and placed in the arms of a Mary statue. drugs were believed to be involved. i don't know if the case was ever solved, but i don't believe it was.

  1. Wow, this is really very touching.

The fact is to bizar to be true, but you made it into such a beautiful and heartbraking poem.

  2. I've never read this one before.... it's excellent, though! Very moving, and a wonderful use of something from daily life as inspiration for poetry. Bravo!! :-) (~Bill)
